Our school has been committed to environmental education for years. Our basic principle is that the principles of sustainability pedagogy should prevail not only in teaching, but also in all areas of school life, including the operation of the school, sports life, child nutrition, and the organization of camps and project days. In recent years, we have organized numerous programs for our students and their parents, which have been incorporated into our annual series of permanent events. We have set ourselves the goal of continuing the projects we have started so far (selective waste collection, energy and water conservation, food waste prevention), continuously greening the classrooms and school environment, and organizing camps and class programs on environmental topics.

Activities of the 4th grade
On our school's career orientation day, the students of the 4th grade not only got to know different professions, but also gained valuable knowledge about the importance of water protection. A parent who works in the capital's water utility service visited our class and gave an interesting presentation about water supply, the process of wastewater treatment, and the importance of protecting drinking water resources. The students learned about the long journey to clean drinking water and how they can contribute to reducing water waste with their everyday habits. The presentation drew attention to the importance of environmentally conscious water use and the protection of natural resources. At the end of the program, the students received a globe-shaped stress-relieving ball as a gift, which also reminded them of the importance of protecting the Earth and our natural assets. The gift brought great joy to the children and was a worthy conclusion to the session on the topic of sustainability and water protection.

Education for a healthy lifestyle was given a prominent role in this school year in grade 4.a. The students made posters about different sports, while learning about their rules and beneficial effects. During the joint work, their knowledge about the importance of regular physical exercise expanded, and they were motivated to try new sports. In this way, we also tried to emphasize that exercise should become a natural part of the students' everyday lives.

Schmidt Egon Ornithology and Nature Conservation Center
Our school is a committed believer in the protection of nature, which is why we place great emphasis on shaping an environmentally conscious attitude. In this spirit, the 7th grade participated in the Schmidt Egon Ornithology and Nature Conservation Center's "Adventure Game in the Wetlands" activity. The class won participation in the program at the Sustainability Theme Week challenge organized at the school. During the activity, the children were able to learn about the wildlife of the wetlands, the importance of nature conservation, and the special inhabitants of wetlands in a playful way. Thanks to the exciting tasks and joint investigation, everyone was actively involved, while gaining many new knowledge. We believe that recognizing and respecting the beauty of the natural world is the first step towards its preservation. We trust that this program not only enriched our students with a lasting experience, but also further deepened their respect for and sense of responsibility for the natural world.

In technology class, we made a fun wind play out of toilet paper rolls that represented our Earth. At the beginning of the class, we also sorted out which actions destroy and which actions help protect our Earth.
Earth Day – Creating from the Gifts of Nature
On the occasion of Earth Day, we held one of the 1st grade drawing classes outdoors. The children had a special task: they had to find a natural object that they found beautiful or something that resembled themselves. An important moment in the class was when we discussed why they could only collect things that nature had already given away. After that, they made different creations in groups from the things they found. Among them were a forest house, a sleeping man, a deer, a nest, a giraffe. And what we created, we gave back, we gave as a gift to nature...

School Street
We organized the event called School Street this year as well. One of the main goals of the program is to make the streets free for children, so that they can play and have fun together in the fresh air and in a safe environment. There were lots of bicycles, scooters, roller skates, and skateboards rolling down Petőfi Street. In addition, students were also spending their time jogging and drawing. It was nice to see that parents and younger siblings also joined the event. Another major goal of the program is environmental protection, as the fact that cars were not allowed to drive on the closed road section made the air a little cleaner. It was good to see the smiling and enthusiastic students in front of the school.
We would like to thank the Air Working Group for the invitation, the Director for the opportunity, and Aunt Niki for the organization.

Visit to the Attitude-Shaping and Reuse Center
“We did not inherit the Earth from our fathers, but borrowed it from our grandchildren” – goes the saying, which comes from the famous environmental activist, David Brower. The 6th grade visited the Attitude-Shaping and Reuse Center on Besence Street with Uncle Ákos. As part of the attitude-shaping session, the children were able to learn about the work going on in the waste yard, as well as the basics of environmental protection, environmentally conscious thinking/behavior and modern waste management. With this attitude in mind, the students of the class also started collecting bottles! The amount of the returned bottles will be donated to charity as a good deed during Lent! By putting into action the biblical verse: “Do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Heb. 13:16)

Frog Rescue
Our school has been participating in Frog Rescue for years, and this year we couldn't miss it either. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to save a frog, but it was still a great day. We had a nice, sunny day in Farmos, it was good to be in the fresh air and go hiking. The staff of the national park first told us about frogs and their key role, and then we set off to save a frog. After that, we took part in bird ringing and gained a lot of interesting information about the birds we observed. Then we took a short walk on the Kékbegy nature trail, where they introduced the flora and fauna. Although we didn't manage to find a frog, we can still consider ourselves lucky because we had sunny weather, we were in the fresh air, we could go hiking and we could gain a huge amount of experience during the bird ringing.

Sustainability Theme Week
As part of the Sustainability Theme Week, class 3. b participated in a project, during which they worked in groups to create a joint poster with the motto "Protect the Earth!". During the work, they delved into the topic of sustainability - that is, how we can live while protecting our environment and our Earth for future generations.
On one side of the poster, they showed what our planet looks like if we don't pay attention to it: cars, smoke, garbage and cut down trees appear on it - they even used real waste for the illustration. While on the other side, a colorful, livable world opens up before us: clean air, green trees, flowers, animals and cheerful people. This contrast points out that everything depends on our decisions, habits, and attitudes.

Setting up bird feeders
"Look at the birds of the air! They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. (Mt. 6:26).
The bird feeders made by our students for the Treasures of Our Garden theme week are doing a good job in our school yard. With the help of Aunt Erika, the 5th grade students took care of filling the feeders. Thematic day at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden
The 6th grade planned a study trip to the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. During the fun, sunny tour, we wandered through the most beautiful parts of the garden and got to know the special representatives of the living world.
The children's emotional attachment to the created world, the crafts carried out in the spirit of sustainability, all serve to deepen their natural science competence.
Our small team participated in the Saving Wild Animals: Nature Conservation at the Zoo mission as part of a thematic program.By learning about protected and endangered species, and rescuing and healing injured living creatures, we came closer to the ideals of the zoo. The memory of the trip is preserved in the fridge magnets made from recycled materials made in Tanodú.
